DAY-BY-DAY ITINERARY

Your Adventure, Day by Day

Our Trip in Peru team will pick you up in Cusco at approximately 4:30 a.m. to start the classic walk. The trip continues for about an hour and a half to Ollantaytambo, where the included breakfast will be served. Subsequently, we will move to Piskacuchu (Km 82), the official starting point of the Inca Trail, where we will meet with the team of porters and enter the corresponding control. From this point, we will cross the Urubamba River to formally begin the hike. The first section of the route is relatively gentle, with mostly flat terrain that leads us towards Mesqay, a rest area. Continuing the trail, we will visit the archaeological site of Willkarakay, where the guide will provide the corresponding explanation before arriving at Llactapata, one of the first Inca complexes on the tour. After the visit, we will continue to Hatunchaca, a place designated for lunch. Then, we will resume the walk in the direction of Huayllabamba, the last settlement on the journey where it is still possible to purchase some basic items such as drinks or snacks. From Huayllabamba, the trail continues progressively to Ayapata, where our camp is located. This last section includes a constant climb that takes approximately between an hour and an hour and a half, marking the end of the first day of the Inca Trail.
Today we will wake up early to start the second day of the Inca Trail. After breakfast we will begin the walk. The trail will gradually gain slope until it reaches Llulluchapampa, a resting point where you can buy water and some snacks. After a brief break, we will continue the ascent towards Dead Woman Pass, at 4,200 m above sea level. n. m., the highest point of the route. During the climb, the landscape changes noticeably, going from green areas to a high mountain environment with open views of the Andes. Although it is the most demanding part of the trek, reaching the top offers one of the most impressive panoramic views of the Inca Trail. Then we will begin the descent towards Pacaymayo (3,600 m a.s.l.), where there will be a break for lunch and rest. In the afternoon, we will continue the route ascending towards the Runkurakay pass. From this point, we will continue with a walk to the archaeological complex of Sayacmarca, where we will take a guided tour to learn about its importance along the way. Finally, we will advance to Chakicocha, where the camp is located. There we will spend the night, in a quiet environment surrounded by mountains, ideal for resting after a demanding day of hiking.
The third day of the Inca Trail is one of the most special of the tour, since we enter one of the areas with the greatest archaeological and landscape wealth of the entire route. After breakfast, we begin the walk with a stretch of approximately two hours to Phuyupatamarca. The trail is progressive and pleasant, with open views and stunning natural surroundings. Along the way, you can see different ecosystems, as well as the richness of Andean flora, including various species of orchids. Upon arriving at Phuyupatamarca, we enjoyed one of the most impressive views of the tour: the Aguas Calientes valley, the Vilcabamba mountain range and the mountainous environment that surrounds Machu Picchu. Although the citadel is not yet visible, the landscape already anticipates its majesty. From there, we make a brief visit to the archaeological complex and continue the descent along ancient Inca trails. The route descends steadily for approximately three hours until we reach Intipata, where our camp is located and where lunch prepared by our team is already waiting for us. In the afternoon, we visit the impressive archaeological site of Wiñay Wayna, one of the most notable on the Inca Trail due to its architecture and location on the mountainside. Upon returning to camp, we shared a special moment with our team of porters and cooks, in a small ceremony of gratitude for their effort and company during the journey. We end the day resting, preparing for the last leg of the adventure: arrival at Machu Picchu.
Very early in the morning we will enjoy breakfast before starting the last stretch of the walk. After the entrance control, we will continue along the path to Inti Punku, the famous Puerta del Sol. From this point we will have the first panoramic view of Machu Picchu, a unique and unforgettable moment after four days of crossing. Then we will descend walking towards the citadel, a journey of approximately 45 minutes. We will enter through the upper part of the archaeological site, where we will have time to contemplate the views and take panoramic photographs of the Inca sanctuary. Subsequently, we will check in and take a short break before starting the guided tour. For approximately two hours, we will explore Machu Picchu with our specialized guide, visiting its main sectors and temples, such as the Temple of the Sun, the Sacred Rock, the Ceremonial Fountains, the Temple of the Condor and other important spaces that reveal the history and greatness of this sacred city. At the end of the visit, we will descend by bus to Aguas Calientes, where you will have time to have lunch and relax in the town. In the afternoon, we will board the return train to Ollantaytambo, where our team will be waiting for you to take you back to Cusco. Arrival is scheduled approximately around 7:00 p.m., thus closing an unforgettable experience with Trip in Peru.
